DescriptionThis is a one day course to give current SFA candidates the opportunity to enhance their practice, which will allow them to (once deem competent by a designated Consultant Surgeon) practice the extended role of an SFA using skills as set out in the Perioperative Care Collaborative (2018). The course will include LA injection injection and pharmacology, superficial skin closure techniques including drain stitching, stapling and skin glue and an introduction to direct diathermy. The course will run from 9am to 5pm

(Support from line manager and Consultant Surgeon Mentor is mandatory.). Recommended prior knowledge NMC/HCPC Registration and SFA qualification. Key learning outcomes · To understand and be able to calculate maximum doses of local anaesthetics and dealing with complications such as toxicity · To be able to describe and label the anatomy of the skin and subcutaneous tissues · To be able to describe and evaluate the correct suture for wound closure and perform correct suture techniques and knots · To be able to describe the indications and contraindications for drains and drain sutures · To apply skin glue and staples safely while understanding the rationale of these methods
