Apply for 2026-2027 Term 1 Mandarin lessons at DMU Confucius Institute
The Term 1 Mandarin lessons will take place on campus once a week. All lessons will start from w/c Monday 05 October 2026 and cover 20 hours of teaching over 10 weeks, ending on w/c Monday 07 December 2026. Daytime lessons are from 10:00-12:00; Evening lessons are from 18:00-20:00. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate issued by CI.
This term, we will offer two types of Mandarin courses: the HSK-based and enrichment courses.
1. For the HSK-based courses, the progression route is:
1) Level 1 (Beginner): Two stages in total
2) Level 2 (Elementary): Two stages in total
3) Level 3 (Pre-intermediate): Four stages in total
4) Level 4 (Intermediate): Four stages in total

2. Two enrichment courses are available: Chinese Arts & Mandarin for Travel. Neither course requires any prior Chinese language background. Both are offered as 10-week modules (one session per week). Any interested student is welcome to enroll.

After completing 10 weeks of classes, learners of each level can progress to the next stage.

Level 2 Stage 1	For those that have studied approximately 40 hours of Mandarin. This group will cover New HSK Coursebook 2: Unit 1-8.	Daytime	Monday

Level 2 Stage 2	For those that have studied approximately 60 hours of Mandarin. This group will cover New HSK Coursebook 2: Unit 9-15.	Daytime	Wednesday

Level 3 Stage 1	For those that have studied approximately 80 hours of Mandarin. This group will cover New HSK Coursebook 3: Unit 1-5.	Evening	Thursday
Level 3 Stage 2	For those that have studied approximately 100 hours of Mandarin. This group will cover New HSK Coursebook 3: Unit 6-10.	Evening	Tuesday
Level 4 Stage 1	For those that have mastered about 400 commonly used words and are able to read and write Chinese characters. This group will cover HSK Standard Course Book 4: Unit 1-5.	Daytime	Wednesday
Chinese Arts	§  Organized into modules of calligraphy, painting, and music. §  Consisting of lecture sessions and hands-on workshops. §  Lessons are taught mainly in English.	Daytime	Tuesday
